New Perspectives for Cuttingtools

It certainly would be surprising if the tool-making industry was spared the continued sharp increase in demands felt by other industries. Complex geometries with very tight tolerances, high-quality surface finishes and the need to reduce costs make the availability of new grinding solutions, such as WENDT’s NaxoForce grinding wheels, continuously necessary. The series features an innovative, hybrid bond system that unites the advantages of several bond techniques, including the cutting ability of synthetic resin and vitrified bonds as well as the profile retention and durability of metal bonds. Such a wealth of talent in one grinding wheel series opens up brand-new perspectives for the manufacture of rotating cutting tools.

The NaxoForce series features:

NaxoFlute – Flute Grinding
Since flute grinding involves the removal of a large quantity of stock, in which the depth of the groove may be up to 8 mm deep, it is considered one of the most demanding and time-consuming grinding operations. In addition, the large size of the contact area makes access for cooling lubricant very difficult, which puts a great deal of strain on both the grinding wheel and the workpiece. For this reason, grinding depths and feed rates have been kept at a minimum up to now to prevent thermal damage. NaxoForce makes such precautionary measures a thing of the past. NaxoFlute grinding wheels have continuously proven themselves in actual use, providing superb material removal and demonstrating exceptional durability.

NaxoFlute CBN – Flute Grinding
For the grinding of HSS and stainless-steel tools for surgery purposes, WENDT also offers a NaxoFlute variant of CBN.

NaxoEdge – Grinding of Face Cutting Edges and Relief Angles
With demands being as high they are on the edge quality of carbide tools, the profile retention of abrasive coatings is of great importance. Ideal is of course when the grinding wheel also allows high removal rates – up to 3 mm – with excellent surface quality. Now, NaxoEdge offers exactly these advantages and more, including superb cutting performance thanks to the glaze-resistant hybrid bond and small grit size, which guarantee long-lasting trueness of form, reducing the frequency of dressing.

NaxoEdge CBN – Grinding of Face Cutting Edges and Relief Angles
The NaxoEdge CBN variant especially displays its talent in the cutting of HSS faces and surgery instruments. It is distinguished by superb profile retention and ultra-fine surfaces of relief angles and tips.

NaxoPolish – Polishing
Grinding wheels with polishing bond provide the crowning finish for high-grade surfaces. NaxoPolish grinding wheels are ideally suited for the finishing of flutes and relief angles.

Dressing
Separate dressing machines with silicon carbide wheels are to be preferred for the dressing of NaxoForce grinding wheels.

Suggested dressing tool: 11C120 H5V (in stock).

IMPORTANT:

  • Use the same holding fixture to dress the grinding wheels as is used to perform the grinding. 
  • If possible, use coolant when dressing.
  • Prior to beginning with the dressing, mark the grinding wheel on its outer edge with a marker, so that you will be able to determine when it has been fully dressed.
  • After dressing the grinding wheel, sharpen it with the dressing stone suggested by WENDT.
